Even though child Sex abuse is rampant in India, families wilfully turn a blind eye while the child suffers in silence.
Rampant Paedophilia : Health professionals estimate that in India, 4 out of every boys and 6 out of 10 girls have faced some form of molestation be an adult. Given that 40 per cent of India's population comprises of minors, such figures are particularly gruesome. But even these numbers fail to effectively convey the horrors related to India's best kept secret-rampant paedophilia.
The uncomfortable truth of the matter is that uncles, brothers, cousins and other such relations are often the primary perpetration of child molestation.
Child sex abuse has remained largely unrecognised in the country because we find it hard to imagine that 'normal' people are capable of being child sex predators.
"Ninety-nine per cent of child sex abusers are just another face in the crowd." The abuser may have been abused himself as a child. "He may try to re-enact power dynamics, by being the abuser instead of the abused."
But child abuse happens for a gamut of other reasons as well; in many parts of the country, it is commonly believed that having sex with children cures sexually transmitted diseases.
Conclusion : Parents should be careful and sympathetic when their child complains of such abuses. They should take notice of 'normal' people when they come in contact of the child. They should be on the guard of their child .
